What is Html?

Full information with HTML coding.

HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. HTML is used to create intemet web pages. It is simply a collection of certain keywords called ’tags’ that are helpful in writing the document to be displayed using a browser on Internet. It was developed by Tim Bemers-Lee at CERN (the European Laboratory for Particle Physics) in Geneva.

HTML is a platform-independent language that can be used on any platform such as Windows, Linux, Macintosh, and so on. To display a document in web it is essential to mark-up the different elements (headings, paragraphs, tables, and so on) of the document with the HTML tags. To view a mark-up document, user has to open the document in a browser. A browser understands and interprets the HTML tags, identifies the structure of the document and then displays the HTML document what we call a web page. I

_ HTML also provides tags to make the document look attractive using graphics, font size and colors. User can make a link to other document or the different sections of the same document by creating hypertext links also known as hyperlinks.

HTML Elements

Creating an HTML document is very easy. To begin coding HTML , you need only two things: a simple-text editor (like Notepad) and a browser (Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox or Netscape Navigator). When you save an HTML file, you can use either the .htm or the .html file extension.

HTML elements are the fundamentals of HTML. HTML documents are simply a text. file made up of HTML elements. These elements are defined using HTML tags. HTML tags tell your browser Which elements to present and how to present them. You need to let the browser know what and Where is a tag, and What and where is not a tag. Therefore you enclose a tag between a < sign and a > sign. For example, a tag could be written <table>. When the browser sees <table>, it treats it as a tag and it Will not display it. It will look into its own dictionary and find out what the <table> tag mean. If it can interpret it, then it displays it accordingly. If it can’t, then it could skip it or display the tag as it is. This feature differs in different browsers.

Almost all tags should have a beginning and closing in your HTML document. The content of the tag is placed in between them. These tags are known as container tags. The closing tag i9 slightly different to the opening tag the closing tag contains a forward slash (/ ) after the <. This tells the browser that this tag closes the previous one. Although there are some tags which n not be closed. Such tags are called empty tags.

HTML tags are case-insensitive. This means that <HTML> tag can also be written as <html7 or <Html> also. All these three forms of <HTML> tag are interpreted in the same way Althougl’l

it is always recommended to keep the tags in lower-case (for eg. <html>). ‘

Syntactically HTML elements are written in the following manner ;

HTML element Start tag ‘ Content End tag

(font co]or="r'ed"> This text 'iS in red </font>

attribute value.I

The basic tags that are included in every HTML document are as follows :

O <htm1> ................ </htm1> O <head> ................ </head> O <tit1e> .............. 3. </t1t1e> O <body> ................ </body>

These tags are written in the following sequence in Notepad

<htm1> <head>

<t1't'le>T'it1e of the web page goes here.</t1't1e> </head>

<body>

Body of the web page goes here.

</body>

</htm1>

This tag is used to indicate that this is an HTML document. The <html> tag encloses all other HTML tags and associated text within your document. It is an optional tag. You can create an HTML document that omits these tags. Your browser can still read it and display it. But it is

always a good practice to include the start and st0p tags.

This ag is used to indicate the header section of the HTML document, which typically includes the <title> tag. It is always placed after <html> tag.

This tag indicates the title of this HTML page. The title is What is displayed on the tipper left corner of the browser when you view a web page. It gives the document a title Wthh IS displayed on the browser’s title bar at the top.

The body> t g contains all the text and graphics of the document With all the HTML tags that are used for control and formatting of the page. Everything inside the <body> tag.

(other than those within the <script> tag) is displayed on the browser inside the main browse Window.
